Truth Data announced its participation as an Industry Partner in the FAA’s Helicopter Flight Data Monitoring (HFDM) research project this week. The FAA is working with the Partnership to Enhance General Aviation Safety, Accessibility, and Sustainability (PEGASAS), a group of world-class researchers, educators, and industry leaders focused on enhancing General Aviation (GA) safety to determine how flight data might be utilized to develop prototype tools and safety metrics to ultimately help reduce the helicopter fatal accident rate. The outcome of this research effort is to develop the tools, technologies, and procedures to incorporate helicopter flight data monitoring data into the Aviation Safety Information Analysis and Sharing (ASIAS) system. The HFDM research is being led by the FAA’s Aviation Research Division and conducted at the FAA William J. Hughes Technical Center, with support from members of PEGASAS and the Helicopter Association International (HAI). The team looks forward to sharing the results of the research and highlighting the potential benefits of HFDM technologies as a valuable and proactive safety tool for the rotorcraft community.
